Students can have a lot of fun with tournaments. Players always race against they’re best five races when at the drag strip (dragster mode) or meadow (riderless horses mode). After each race they get the score for the race they just did. They also get a “Top five average” elapsed time. It’s this top five average that is used to compare players in a topic if they’re in a tournament. As participants race, they are improving their top five average. The menu that lists the top five averages of the players is the Racers menu. The Racers menu is the menu you’re at right before you go to the drag strip or the meadow. During a tournament, as players scores are improving, they often leap frog each other on that Racers menu.
Standard CD Version users can have tournaments on one or more computers. If it’s on more than one computer, then each computer will have the top five average score(s) for the player(s) who were racing on that computer.
Deluxe Version users can also have tournaments on one or more computers also. But in their case, each computer is saving the scores to the same database on Barnum Software’s server. That means that regardless of which computer you’re on, you can see the others’ scores in the tournament. So, you can check your ranking between races. Also, Deluxe users can have other family members (children off at college or living/staying in a different location plus grandparents in a different location) participate in real-time tournaments.
To have a tournament, simply choose a topic everyone will be racing in and start racing. It can last as long as you wish—an hour, a day, a week, or longer.
Standard CD Version instructions
All participants need to be saving their scores in folder called, “Everyone.” To find that folder, sign in and then navigate to the topic in which you’ll be racing. When you’re at the topic, the banner in the upper-right corner will say, “Racers.” Near the bottom of that menu you’ll see a popup button. It will either say “Everyone” or it will have the name of the student who is signed in. If it doesn’t say, “Everyone,” click on it and hold the button down until “Everyone” appears. Then, select “Everyone” and let go of the mouse. If everyone is racing on the same computer, then during the tournament, everyone’s name will appear on the Racers menu and be ranked according to their top five average.
Deluxe Version instructions
All participants need to be saving their scores in folder called, “Race with everyone.” To find that folder, sign in and then navigate to the topic in which you’ll be racing. When you’re at the topic, the banner in the upper-right corner will say, “Racers.” Near the bottom of that menu you’ll see two options for saving scores: “Race with everyone” and “Track your progress over time.” If “Race with everyone” isn’t selected, then select it. During the tournament, everyone’s name will appear on the Racers menu and be ranked according to their top five average.
