  1. Is it possible to get a CD version of the DEMO of the Quarter Mile?
    Yes. Please call us at 800-553-9155 or click Request DEMO to send us an email requesting one. It's a fully functional Quarter Mile. It has all the features of the CD version.

  3. Do you have a money-back guarantee?

  4. My program freezes during or at the end of a race.
    We have an easy fix. It is a rare occurrence but on a few Windows XP computers, the program will freeze toward the end of the race. (This only happens in dragster mode.) Following are directions for altering the shortcut on your desktop. (You do not need to also do this to the shortcut accessed via the “Start” button. That shortcut will be updated automatically.)

    1. Right-click on the Quarter Mile shortcut on the desktop.
    2. Select Properties.
    3. Click on the Compatibility tab.
    4. Click on "Run this program in Compatibility mode for:."
    5. Click on the arrow to show all the choices.
    6. Click on the "Windows 98 / Windows ME" option.
    7. Click on OK. That should fix it.
  5. The Quarter Mile doesn’t fill the screen (there is a black border around it).
    The black border will go away if the program is running in a screen resolution of 640x480. Following are ways to alter the resolution on different computers.

    Windows XP and Vista customers:

    If you have an older version of the Quarter Mile (older than version 6.5.1—see the CD label for the version number) and are running it on a Windows XP computer, there is an easy way to alter the Quarter Mile’s resolution so that it fills the screen. Following are directions for altering the shortcut on your desktop. (You do not need to also do this to the shortcut accessed via the Start button. That shortcut will be updated automatically.)

    1. Right-click on the Quarter Mile shortcut on the desktop.
    2. Select Properties.
    3. Click on the Compatibility tab.
    4. Click on “Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution.”
    5. Click OK.

    When you start the Quarter Mile, it will run in 640x480 mode. When you stop the Quarter Mile, the computer’s resolution will return to whatever it was set to for before you started the Quarter Mile.

Windows 98, NT, 2000, ME customers:
If the computer is running in a resolution that is greater than 640x480, there is no automatic way to have the Quarter Mile run in 640x480 mode. Following is one way to alter your computer’s resolution.

  1. Right-click on your desktop.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Click on the Setting tab at the top.
  4. Move the “Screen area” indicator to the left to change it to 640x480.
  5. Click OK.

Your computer will run in this resolution until you change it back. Note: Sometimes this moves the locations of the shortcuts on your desktop.

  1. How do I switch topics?
    Click on the “Change topics • Save” button which will take you to the Racers menu. Then, you can click on one of the following buttons: Topics, Topic areas, or Subjects.

    On versions 6.3.3 and earlier, you click on the “Save • Exit” button.

  2. How do I change the sound level?
    Click on the “Help • Info” button and move the sound bar.

  3. What is your technical support number and is it free?

  4. What is one of the least known but most important features of the Quarter Mile?
    It’s the method by which students can track their progress in a topic over time. CD version users: See the Guide index: “Racing folders.” Network and Deluxe Version (formerly known as “Internet-Portal”) users: See the Guide index: Track your progress over time” It’s so simple to do.

  5. Can I be sent a replacement “Guide” or “Brochure?”

  6. How can I upgrade my version of the Quarter Mile to the latest version?
    It’s very easy! Anyone can upgrade at any time.

    There are different kinds of upgrades.

    $10 Standard CD upgrade:
    If you have any older version, you can get the latest version of your product for $10. Just send your disk and a check for $10 made out to Barnum Software. (Schools may use purchase orders.) Please include a note stating that you would like us to send you the latest version. We do not need the box or any of the paper materials that came with your Quarter Mile.

    If you have multiple copies of a program (perhaps you’re a school with a site license of a program), you can send us all of the Quarter Mile programs you have to get the upgrade. The cost is $10 for the first CD we send you and $2 for each additional CD.

    Network version upgrades: If you have the network version, you can upgrade in any or all of the following ways.

    1. Upgrade to a newer version.
    2. Upgrade to a version that covers a greater range of topics.
    3. Increase the number of licenses.
    4. Convert to the Deluxe Version (formerly known as “Internet-Portal”).

    FREE School network upgrade
    If you have a school network version that is version 6.5h or older, you qualify to get a FREE network upgrade. There have been some very helpful teacher features added and functionality changes made. We'd like you to have access to them. Another option is to convert what you have to the Deluxe Version (formerly known as “Internet-Portal”). You can find out what your version is by looking at the middle-right side of the CD. Once you've determined that your version is 6.5h or older, please call 800-553-9155 for details.
